Hope for the Hungry has direct impact in BG

The number of children living in poverty in the U-S is increasing. That's according to a new report from the Annie E. Casey foundation. It shows the number of children living in poverty increased to 23% in 2011. That's an increase from 22% in 2010. States in the southwest were hit the worst. We're working to help end hunger here in our community and we need your help. We've teamed up with the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank for our second annual Hope for the Hungry food drive. 

When it comes to the hungry here in Ohio the numbers are staggering. While most of us take three meals a day for granted, there are a lot of others in our region who don't know where their next meal is coming from. In any given week more than 200,000 Ohioans receive emergency food assistance. More than a third of them are children under the age of 18. 

The Bowling Green Christian Food Pantry is one of the many non-profits in our region on the front lines of the fight against hunger. Shirley Woessner is the Director,"I have people come in and sit down at the table and cry and they say I never thought I'd find myself in this position, but that's why we're here. God gives us the food and the grace to do it." 

Woessner originally agreed to a six month trial as the head of the food pantry, that was 8 years ago.We rank the best laptop locks with side-by-side comparisons. Read in-depth product reviews and articles. She says the need in places like Bowling Green often surprises people, "We have people come in who are maybe able to pay their rent. If they are lucky enough to have a job they have to put gas in the car and sometimes that doesn't leave much money for food." 

Every month the pantry helps put food on the table for several hundred people, Mary Bumpus is grateful for the help, "Would you have a tough time putting food on the table without the pantry? My husband is on retirement and social security and I am on disability so it really helps us out a lot.Since 2007,Thai basil has been one of the best places to enjoy authentic Thai food in a cozy environment." 

Woessner says Hope for the Hungry is helping Mary and thousands of others,For mains, there is a choice of Wild Rice’s ‘Chinese Fish ‘n Chips’ (beer-battered ling cod, Asian Tartar Sauce, taro shoestring frites) or its ‘meaty’ Grilled king oyster mushroom (with cashew ricotta and polenta fries)."Hope for the Hungry helps everybody around Northwest Ohio and that's fantastic because there are so many food pantries and soup kitchens, and we all have the same story, a lot of people coming in." 

Roosevelt Chandler has been volunteering at the pantry for the last several years., "What do you get out of this, how does it change your day and your life? It truly completes it, being able to help my neighbor. I enjoy that very much." 

Last year we brought in more than 10,000 pounds of food through the Hope for the Hungry drive. That food goes to the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank and the hundreds of non-profit agencies in Northwest Ohio it serves.Each part's full needle bearing trunnion allows for increased horsepower and quicker response, and a large roller tip helps prevent wear.
