Police here are investigating a dognapping.
Betty Barriga of Seymour said Tuesday that Delilah, her "constant companion''and a trained therapy dog who visits patients at Griffin Hospital , was stolen from her car on Saturday.Although a water sprinkler truck system activated and managed to keep the fire from spreading, the fiber glass hood of the truck that "burns very black and toxic smoke that's very dangerous".
"I had parked in a shady spot at the (Westfield) Connecticut Post Mall parking garage and I rolled the window down a bit so she could get some air,'' Barriga said. "When I came back, she was gone, but her dog bed, water bottle and snacks were still in the car.''
Mall security guards reviewed video from cameras in front of Sears and Macy's but were not able to determine how Delilah got out of the car, officials said.
Barriga's older Honda Accord has the stick-shaped door locks that can be pulled up from outside the car.
"My thought is that someone took it to teach me a lesson,'' a tearful Barriga said Tuesday. "An animal activist probably thought it was cruel to leave a dog in the car, but I was only in the store a few minutes.''

"She just came back from the groomer, and the heavier tags can sometimes hurt her neck,An employee discovered a waste management trucks for sale smoking around 10:50 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 4, and traced the source to cargo smoldering inside the compactor.'' Officer Jeff Nielsen said Milford police are investigating the theft of the dog, and that it was apparently taken between 6 and 7:15 p.m. on Saturday.
