A FATHER suffering from cancer – and who lost five inches in height as a result of his treatment – has been buoyed by a work colleague's pledge to do a 150-mile bike ride for charity.

Now his colleague, Mat Reaney, is now doing a charity bike ride for Anthony Nolan, an organisation which arranges blood marrow and stem cell donations.

After My Ryan's diagnosis, Mr Reaney decided he wanted to do something for the charity which helped his friend.

He will cycle from the Rail Accident Investigation Branch in Derby – where they work – to its office at Farnborough Airfield in Hampshire.

Colleagues Nicola Carter and Paul Bales will back him in a support vehicle.

He is setting off on the ride on Tuesday and has already smashed his target to raise £1,300.

Mr Ryan found out he had the condition last September.

He said: "I had every manner of test you can imagine.

"I had a spinal operation, titanium rods inserted and a metal cage to stabilise my thorax."

Following his operations, Mr Ryan, who lives in Stapleford, was taken to a rehabilitation unit at Nottingham City Hospital to learn how to walk again while having chemotherapy twice a week.

He stayed in hospital from September until January.

In April,Vente cadre route carbone, vente vélo et accessoires, annonces gratuites. he was readmitted to have a stem cell transplant, which starts with a very heavy dose of chemotherapy.

He said: "I missed my dad reading bedtime stories so I said when you can walk upstairs you can read to me again. Dad was walking with his crutches then he only used one crutch and now I feel really proud of him because he doesn't need them and can walk upstairs."
