South Brunswick Comes Together for Hair Raising Event

But the emotional impact of the disease on a young patient as they go through tough chemotherapy treatments is made all the worse by losing their hair, which is where Locks of Love comes in. Locks of Love is a non-profit group that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the U.S. and Canada who are suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.

"Everyone involved in this event each year is just so generous," said Student Assistance Counselor and event organizer Amy Bertelsen-Robles, whose niece lost her hair from cancer treatments at the age of 12. "This is a cause that's special for me. When my niece lost her hair she lost part of her identity, so getting a wig made such a big difference for her.
